Once upon a time in a far far away time, there was privacy.
That was then and this is now, and in the now google sees everything you do — Wait no, that is probably true. Recently with Google Buzz privacy was essentially ripped away like a earthquake in California, email addresses were revealed and people who have spent years of their lives avoiding other people suddenly found themselves face to face with these people again. Or really, text to text with these people.
Also, the creators of Facebook said something along the lines of, “There is no privacy, openness is the new wave.”
All in all, I will have to say my two cents are that I agree with this, however with Google Buzz they should have done more testing ahead of time, rolled it out slower to a smaller audience, it was one of their more rushed projects from the looks of it.
However, privacy is an issue that we deal with on a daily level, people are scared of losing but forget they don’t really have it to begin with. There is the privacy of, your next door neighbor not seeing what you spend on your credit cards, but, the government knows, credit agencies can look, bank agencies can look. So it comes down to different levels of privacy, High (Government agencies can peek), Medium (hackers can easily access) Low (you put it on facebook & twitter it’s your own problem)
So when people begin to be disgruntled about their privacy just remember, if you really want to have privacy.
1) Don’t use credit cards
2) don’t use a cell phone
3) don’t use a computer
4) don’t use cash
5) live on a mountain in a remote region of the world, eat what you hunt.
We are quickly approaching a day where openness of all privacy will be disintegrated in one form or another, there will be some sacred places, sensitive information and such, but even that is at risk of hackers these days. Which is really a more advanced version of someone breaking into your house, just easier.
My two cents, what are your thoughts?
