The Problem, not listening.
Today a man crashed his plane into the IRS building, he did a lot of damage, killed himself in the process and could have killed others. I’ve heard on CNN earlier, and then on the news tonight their commentary and I have to abject to what they are stating. They continue going the route of “terrorism”, he struck out at a government building, we can’t predict what people will do, these small planes are to risky, how can we prevent this. I listen and I’m amazed, I read through his final letter he left, they posted it up on foxnews. And from what I read, he wasn’t listened to, and maybe he didn’t even know how to speak up for help. But, for the news agencies to continue on with this dialog I think is a ridiculous horse to ride.
Instead of saying the reasons why he did what he did, and giving his thoughts a voice, it goes the route of terrorism. Now, my question is this, before 9/11 and before our blanket terminology of “terrorism”.
What was happening when postal workers years back went “postal”, a few incidents happened in post offices, in a government building. But we covered their rage, their anger, or whatever else it was. I don’t recall people sitting around going, “oh yeah, they were a terrorist, no one knew it but they were waiting to pop out of the box like a jack in the box.”
Did they provoke fear, terror, in the literal term of the word? Yes. But in the sense of what the news agencies use the word terrorism to describe? No, not really. He didn’t raise a clan of renegade people who were angry and stormed the gates of the government.
I think our media has fallen into a sad place, because it has. Accurate reporting without trying to ride the ratings wave is done and gone, now it’s about hot words, rating and other bullcrap, it’s a shame too, it used to be such a good profession.
